Women’s Basketball Take it to Racers

LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team completed their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season on Saturday with an 87-53 win over the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers. The win makes history for Tech as the first time the Warriors have gone undefeated in conference play, finishing the regular season as conference champions with a 22-0 record. Overall, the Warriors sit at 25-3.

The Warriors wasted no time getting things started in the opening ten minutes, scoring seven straight points. Tech took their first double-digit lead at the 4:36 mark, compliments of a triple from Korryn Smith. Thanks to a ferocious defense allowing just 8 points and Smith's ten first-quarter points, the Warriors watched their lead swell to 17 points at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors kept things rolling in the second quarter and saw their lead extend to 20 with 3:27 left in the half. At the midway point, the Warriors held a 44-20 advantage.

The second half had a start like the first, as Tech scored the first seven points of the half. The Warriors offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting 62.5% from the floor in the third quarter while putting up 26 points. On the defensive side of the ball, the Warriors limited the Racers scoring to 7 points, resulting in their lead growing to 43 points heading into the final frame. The hosts outscored Tech in the final quarter, but the damage was already done as the Warriors cruised to an 87-53 victory.

The Warriors host Aquinas College on Wednesday for the opening round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament. Tip-off with the Saints is set for 6:00 p.m.
