GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team faced their first road test of the season as they traveled to a tough team in RV Georgetown College on Saturday. The Warriors and Tigers were both receiving votes in the first Naia Women's Lacrosse Coaches Top Ten Poll that was released on Wednesday, but Tech would clearly show that they were the more dominant side in this one.
Indiana Tech got things started quickly, as
Jada Pope would score just 13 seconds into the game after an assist from
Da'zah Regusters. The Warriors would go on to score four more goals in rapid succession, as the led 5-1 in less than four minutes of game action. After a couple of Georgetown goals, Tech would press down on the gas pedal, scoring four more times in the period to make it 9-4 after one. Again, the Warriors would strike quickly, when
Lauren Hainlin found the back of the net 39 seconds into the second quarter, completing her hattrick on an assist from
Michelle Farrell. The Warriors would lead 12-5 after a very strong first half display. The second half would be even more lopsided as the Orange & Black would go the next 28 minutes without allowing a goal as they shut out Georgetown in the third quarter and only allowed one goal in the fourth. Tech would rattle off eight straight goals in the second half, scoring four in each quarter and cruising to a 20-6 blowout victory. Farrell and
Faith Donally would lead the offense for Tech with six points each, both scoring five goals and picking up one assist. Hainlin would finish with four goals and one assist for five points in the contest, while also leading the team in ground balls with five. Regusters would finish with an all-around game for the Warriors, scoring twice, picking up one assist, five ground balls, six draw controls, and causing three turnovers. In goal,
Sydney Oberdorfer would have a stellar game, making seven saves and picking up her first win of the season in a statement game for the Warriors.
The Warriors move to 2-0 on the young campaign, as they get ready for their biggest test of the season in an early WHAC contest against defending WHAC Regular Season, WHAC Tournament, and NAIA National Champion, No. 1 ranked Lawrence Tech University, on Wednesday, February 28
th in Southfield, Michigan at 5pm.
