LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Indiana Tech baseball team traveled to Lawrenceville, Georgia, for three games of action over the weekend. In Saturday's neutral site game with Fisher College, the Warriors dropped a nail-bitter 6-7 in extra innings. On Sunday, Tech faced off with No. 2 ranked Georgia Gwinnett College, falling in game one of the doubleheader 6-16 and 0-10 in game two.
Against Fisher, the Warriors took a 6-0 lead after their first five frames at the plate, highlighted by a trio of homeruns.
Parker Bates got things started in the top of the first, launching a two-run shot over the left field fence. Bryce Stultz and
Jack Ferguson also went yard for Tech. The bottom of the fifth is when Fisher began their comeback, scoring in three straight innings to cut the Warrior's lead to 6-5. In the bottom of the ninth, Fisher drew level to force extra innings, in which they broke the deadlock in the bottom of the twelfth inning to complete to come from behind win, 7-6, over Tech.
In game one of Sunday's doubleheader with Georgia Gwinnett, the Warriors again found themselves ahead after six innings, leading 6-3. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Grizzlies hung eight runs to take their first lead of the game and, an inning later, scored another five runs to end the game 16-6.
The second game of the doubleheader against the Grizzlies was a close contest through the opening four innings, with the hosts clinging to a narrow one-run lead they notched in the bottom of the third inning. An explosion of offense in the bottom of the fifth inning ended with the Grizzlies scoring five runs to swell their lead to six runs. Two innings later, the hosts put the game to bed, scoring four more runs to take a 10-0 victory.
Next up for the Warriors is their first home game of the season as they host Lawrence Tech on Saturday, March 16, for the Warrior's first conference doubleheader of the season.
