Koning’s Perfect Game Highlights Two Wins to Wrap Up Tech Softball’s Florida Spring Break Trip

MELBOURNE, Fla. – On the fifth and final day of their spring break trip down in Florida, the Indiana Tech softball team played would play the last two of their ten games at the Space Coast Games against Columbia International University (S.C.) and RV Missouri Baptist University, winning both in exciting fashion.

Game one would be the highlight of the trip as senior pitcher, Jayme Koning would throw a perfect game! Koning would dominate the Rams from start to finish. The senior from Kalamazoo, Michigan would face the minimum 21 batters over the seven innings of work. Koning wouldn't allow a hit or a run or even let a batter get on base in the game, throwing one strikeout and just 54 total pitchers in an unbelievable performance. With Koning shining on the mound, the Warriors offense would struggle to help with run support. Thankfully, Bella Brock would pick up an RBI single on a squeeze bunt that allowed Maire Trouba to score the only run of the game in a thrilling 1-0 Warrior win.

Game two would not disappoint either as the Warriors dominated RV Missouri Baptist in an upset win to wrap up their week. With the score tied at zero through three innings, the Tech bats would come alive in the top of the fourth inning, batting through the lineup on their way to scoring five runs. The Spartans would score twice in the bottom half of the inning to cut it to a 2-5 deficit, but the Warriors would add three runs in the top of the seventh to restore their advantage to six runs. Savannah Bravo would shut down Missouri Baptist in the final inning, like she had all game, to secure the 8-2 victory for Tech. Bravo would finish the game allowing four hits and two runs in seven innings of work, while also throwing two strikeouts. Maire Trouba would lead the Tech offense, going three for five at the plate with an RBI and stolen base. Katie O'Drobinak and Kennedi Sullivan would also pick up multi-hit games, while Kaelie Kugler, Melissa Cabrera, Ella Cochenour, and Kenadee Schnick would each record one RBI.

The Warriors improve to 17-4 overall on the season and finish their Florida spring break trip at 8-2. Tech will now look to open WHAC play with a pair of wins upon returning home when they host the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a doubleheader starting at 1pm on Friday, March 22nd.
