LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team traveled to Livonia, Michigan, for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) doubleheader with the Madonna University Crusaders, in which the Warriors fell in both games, 8-9 and 14-5.
Tech got things started in the opener, scoring in the top of the first inning thanks to a base knock from
Tyler Stahl that scored
Ben Morrison. The hosts answered quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on another four in the bottom of the second to take a 7-1 lead. A solo shot from
Nick Miller pulled one back for the Orange and Black in the top of the third innings, and a two-RBI triple from
Brice Stultz in the top of the fourth cut into the Crusader's lead even more. The Warrior's offense kept rolling, scoring four more runs in the top of the sixth inning as
Christian Mojica recorded an RBI,
Nick Miller picked up his second RBI of the day, and
Jack Ferguson sent a ball over the fence for a two-run shot to retake the lead 8-7. Tech's lead was short-lived as the hosts retook control in the bottom of the sixth, sending two across home to go up 9-8 and hold the Warriors to win.
The Crusaders got things rolling in the second game, scoring the game's opening run in the bottom of the second inning. A sacrifice fly to center field from
Ben Morrison saw
Brice Stultz tie the game at one in the top of the third inning. The Crusaders had an explosion of offense in the bottom of the third to reestablish their lead, plating seven runs in the frame to go up 8-1. The Orange and Black scored four runs across the next two innings to cut the host's lead to three but couldn't muster any more offense as the Crusaders pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. The hosts added two more in the bottom of the eighth to ensure the win, 14-5.
Next up for Tech is a single nine-inning game with the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon in Marion, Indiana, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
