Wildcats Down Tech in Offensive Battle

MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team traveled to the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon for a single nine-inning matchup with the Wildcats. In a game that featured a ton of offense, the Wildcats took down the Warriors with a final score of 15-12.

Nick Miller got the offensive affair going with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to send Ben Morrison across as the game's first run. In the next at-bat, Brycen Hannah doubled the Warrior's lead with a single to left field that scored Luke Huerta. After keeping the Wildcats dormant in the bottom of the first, the Warrior's offense continued to hum, scoring three more runs in the top of the second. Ben Morrison scored Christian Mojica with a ground ball to the shortstop, and Brycen Hannah picked up two more RBIs on the day with a single through the gap between short and third. IWU got on the board in the bottom of the second after a self-inflicted wound by the Warriors.

Tech made it three straight innings they would record a run, scoring off another sacrifice fly, this time by Brice Stultz, in the top of the third inning. The hosts picked up another run in the bottom of the third but scored three in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Orange and Black's lead to just one run, 6-5. Tech tallied two more runs in the top of the fifth, but to their dismay, the Wildcats offense took off, scoring eight runs off two home runs and two doubles in the fifth frame to grab the lead for the first time in the ball game, 13-8.

The Wildcats added two more runs over the next two innings before their offense went quiet, but the damage was already done. Despite Tech's run in the top of the eighth and three runs in the top of the ninth, the comeback effort came up short as IWU claimed the victory, 15-12. Ben Morrison and Brycen Hannah highlighted Tech's offense, recording four RBIs apiece.

Next up for Tech is a four-game conference series at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, with two games on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and two on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
