DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team found the win column over the weekend on their trip to Dearborn, Michigan, with a four-game series sweep over the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. On Sunday, the Warriors took both games over the Wolverines, winning 8-0 and 11-4. Tech completed the sweep on Monday with another pair of wins, 16-2 and 14-1.
In the series opener, there was little action through the first three innings as neither team scored a run. In the top of the fourth, Tech broke through, scoring two runs. An inning later, the Warriors tallied another two runs to double their lead, and in the top of the sixth, they once again doubled their lead with a four spot in the frame.
Eli MacDonald had a big game at the dish, accounting for three of the Warrior's seven hits in his four plate appearances and leading the team with four RBIs.
Grant Besser had a stellar performance on the bump in game one, picking up the win with a complete game shutout. He allowed five hits and retired thirteen of the 25 batters faced via strikeout while walking zero.
In game two, the Wolverines came out of the gate, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tech had a response, though, scoring two runs in the top of the second to knot the game at two. The Warriors hung two more runs in the top of the third to take their first lead of game two. The hosts pulled one back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Warriors matched the Wolverine's game total with four runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Tech didn't stop there, though, as they piled on two more runs in the top of the eighth and one in the ninth.
Ryan Uhlenhake got the win on the mound, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing three runs on three hits. Uhlenhake struck out nine of the 22 batters he faced and walked two.
The Warriors' high-power offense from Sunday carried over to Monday as the Warriors opened the third game of the series with four runs in the first inning. That kicked things off for the Orange and Black as they would score in every inning but the seventh on their way to the 16-2 win. Offensively for Tech,
Luke Huerta went 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBIs, and
Tyler Stahl went 2 for 4 with a game-high 4 RBIs. Adding to the offense was
Patrick McGinn with a 2 for 3 day, adding 3 RBIs.
Ethan Griffith earned the win, throwing 4.1 innings. While on the bump, Griffith surrendered two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking three.
The series finale started slow, but after two scoreless innings, a double from
Ben Morrison broke the deadlock as
Jaden Miller scored. That was one of the three runs the Orange and Black would score that inning and kickstarted the offense as they'd tally at least one run in every remaining inning. The Wolverines scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Tyler Stahl and
Nick Miller both contributed three RBIs to lead the team, while
Parker Bates and
Ben Morrison chipped in two RBIs apiece.
Ethan McCormick picked up the win for Tech, throwing five innings in which he allowed one hit, zero runs, and stuck out five of the sixteen batters faced.
The Warriors are back in action Tuesday as they host Indiana University Kokomo for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
