FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team played a doubleheader at home against IU-Kokomo on Tuesday evening where both sides would walk away with a win.
Game one of the doubleheader would be all Cougars as they controlled the game from start to finish. IU-Kokomo would score one run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, the Cougars would light up the box score, scoring in every inning from there on out. The Warriors would manage to score one run in the game, coming in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo homerun to left center field from
Luke Huerta, but would ultimately fall 14-1. Huerta would finish the game one for three at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, while
Parker Bates would be the only Warrior with multiple hits in the game, going two for three.
Nathan Mack got the start on the mound for the Warriors, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing nine hits and six runs, while throwing five strikeouts.
The Warriors would bounce back in game two in a thrilling contest that came down to the final play. Tech would start the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with three runs.
Christian Mojica would hit a two run bomb to straight away center and
Ben Morrison would pick up an RBI on a groundout to second. In the third inning, the Warriors would score two runs thanks to some pitching mistakes by the Cougars. With the bases loaded,
Patrick McGinn would draw a walk to bring
Nathan Mack home and then during
Keelan Dunkle's at bat,
Eli MacDonald would score on a passed ball to bring the Tech lead up to 5-0 after three innings of play. The Cougars would battle back with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth to tie the game at five. IU-Kokomo would threaten again in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs and the score tied at five, but junior reliever
Matt McKeon would strike out the final batter to get the Warriors out of the jam. In the bottom of the seventh the Warriors would manage to load the bases to bring the game winning run just 90 feet away.
Jaden Miller would step up to the plate to try to win it for Tech, but during his at bat, the Cougars pitcher would throw a ball that escaped to the back stop, allowing
Quinn Seefeldt to dash home from third and score the winning run for the Warriors as they walk off game two in a wild ending. Seefeldt would lead the Orange & Black with two hits in three at bats, scoring one run in the contest, while Mojica finished two for two at the plate with a walk, homerun, run scored, and two RBIs.
Coley Stevens would start on the mound for Tech, going 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, with seven strikeouts. McKeon would pick up the win as he finished with one hit, no runs, and two strikeouts in 1.0 inning of action.
The Warriors now sit at 7-17 overall on the season and will face Cleary University in a WHAC matchup in their next doubleheader on Friday, March 29
th at 1pm in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
