CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Indiana Tech baseball team found the win column for the first time this season with a doubleheader sweep against Campbellsville University in Kentucky on Sunday afternoon. The bats were hot for Tech as the offense put up thirteen runs between the two games on 24 hits. In the first meeting of the weekend, the Warriors downed the hosts 7-5 before blanking the Tiger's offense for a 6-0 win in the nightcap.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Warriors struck first, putting up a three spot in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of a pair of Tiger errors. The Warriors extended their lead in the top of the fourth thanks to a sac bunt from
Patrick McGinn that scored
Tristan Osika. The visitors continued to grow their lead in the top of the sixth with two runs. The hosts answered with one run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to five. A sac fly off the bat of
Ethan Nielson in the top of the seventh saw the Warriors retake a six-run cushion with two innings left. In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers drew one back, followed by a three-run ninth, but the comeback attempt came up short as
Kade Robinson shut the door to record the save.
Grant Besser was credited with the win after throwing seven innings with five strikeouts. He allowed six hits and one earned run.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Warriors did all their damage in the top of the fifth inning, hanging six runs on the Tiger's defense.
Patrick McGinn led the team with three hits in five at-bats.
Carson McNulty and
Jack Ferguson accounted for four RBIs, sharing two apiece, while
Parker Bates also drove in a run.
Zach Zaborowski put together a pitcher-of-the-week caliber performance on the mound, throwing seven scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out eleven.
Ryan Uhlenhake threw two innings in relief, surrendering zero hits with four strikeouts.
Tech travels to Lawrenceville, Georgia on Saturday to take on Fisher College on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College, before facing off with the Georgia Gwinnett in a two-game series.
