FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 7 ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team defeated the No. 9 ranked Marian University Knights on senior day in a pivotal WHAC battle on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the game, the Warriors would honor eight members of their squad on senior day, including
Cece Mason,
Da'zah Regusters,
Kalisha Gilmore,
Jade Hamilton,
Brooke Buhr,
Dani Macomber,
Kayleigh Coulombe, and
Faith Donally. In a highly anticipated top ten matchup with two of the top teams in the WHAC and an energetic atmosphere on the cusp of the senior day festivities,
Brook Maul would get the Warriors on the board first, scoring with a man up midway through the first quarter. Senior
Faith Donally would get her first of the game near the end of the quarter on an assist from senior
Brooke Buhr to put Tech up 2-0 after the first period of play. After Buhr put the Warriors up 3-0 early in the second, the Knights would close the half on a 3-1 run to cut the Warrior lead to one at the break. Marian would ride that momentum into the third as they outscored Tech 6-2 in the quarter to go into the driver's seat with a 9-6 lead and just 15 minutes to go. With the Knights trying to spoil senior day, the Warriors would have other plans. Buhr would jump start the offense in the fourth quarter scoring two goals on the man advantage less than 40 seconds apart to bring the Warriors within one.
Michelle Farrell would then score a crucial goal two minutes later to tie the game and assist Donally 25 seconds later to put Tech ahead 10-9. Marian would manage to tie the game at ten, but
Da'zah Regusters would break the deadlock with 6:08 left to play to take back control for the Warriors. As the clock continued to wind to zero, tension was high, until seniors Donally and Burh would link up for the third time in the game to score a dagger insurance goal with 1:20 remaining. The Orange & Black would see out the final 80 seconds of the game, finishing off the Knights 12-10 in a big senior day win. Donally and Buhr would lead the Warrior offense with six points each. Donally would finish with six goals, four ground balls, and one caused turnover, while Buhr would finish with three goals, three assists, two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls in a stellar all-around performance. Farrell would have an impressive game as well for Tech, leading the team in draw controls with ten and ground balls with six, while also causing two turnovers, scoring one goal and one assist. Defensively Regusters would shine for the Orange & Black as well as chipping in offensively, posting six ground balls, five caused turnovers, three draw controls, one assist, and the game winning goal.
Kalisha Gilmore would pick up four ground balls and cause one turnover,
Dani Macomber would record one assist, two ground balls, and one caused turnover, and
Kayleigh Coulombe would cause two turnovers.
Kat Hoff would pick up the win in goal for the Warriors moving her record to 5-0 on the season. Hoff would finish the game making twelve huge saves, while also picking up two ground balls.
The Warriors improve to 8-3 overall this season and 3-1 in WHAC play. Tech will host Rochester University in their next game on Wednesday, April 3
rd at 5pm.
