FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team hosted the Taylor University Trojans on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader. Tech got things done against the Crossroads League foe in the first game, winning 1-0. Taylor bounced back in the second as their bats came alive to down the Warriors 13-6 and split the series.
In the opener,
Alyssa Fox started things with a bang, legging out a triple in the bottom of the first inning. Two batters later,
Katie O'Drobinak drove Fox in with a clutch two-out, full-count single to the gap in right-center. From there, it was an all-out defensive battle.
Savannah Bravo continued to deal on the mound, throwing a complete-game shutout, her fourth of the season, in which she allowed just one hit, walked one batter, and sat down five via strikes.
It was the visitors striking first in the nightcap as a long ball from Kaylee Larkin put the Trojans up two in the top of the first inning. It didn't take long for the Warriors to respond as a single from
Katie O'Drobinak scored
Maire Trouba for her second RBI of the night to cut the lead in half. It only took one more frame for the Warriors to draw level, as
Grace Butcher found the gap in right-center for a two-bagger. After advancing to third on a fly out to left field, Butcher eventually scored on a wild pitch. After a scoreless inning for both sides, things unraveled for the Warriors defensively in the top of the fourth inning, with the visitors hanging six runs in the frame. A two spot in the top of the sixth from the visitors forced a response from the Orange and Black, or the game would end early. Tech did just that, answering with four runs to cut the lead to four heading into the final inning. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Larkin went yard for the second time in the game, knocking across three runs with one swing of the bat to put the game to rest for a 13-6 Taylor victory.
With the series split, Tech moves to 8-1 on the season and returns to action tomorrow as they host a doubleheader at Warrior Park against Huntington University starting at 3:00 p.m.
