Warriors Split Doubleheader with Foresters

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team played a two-game doubleheader with the Huntington University Foresters on Thursday evening at Warrior Park. Tech would chop down the Foresters in game one, but timber in game two.

In game one of the doubleheaders, the Warriors would dominate from start to finish. Katie O'Drobinak would pick up an RBI single and Haylee Pruitt would record a two-RBI triple in the first inning to give Tech an early 3-0 lead. The Warriors would add three more runs in the third inning to bring their lead up to six. Kennedi Sullivan would crush a ball to left field and over the fence for her second homerun on the season, while Pruitt and Kaelie Kugler would both pick up RBI doubles in the inning. Sullivan would pick up another RBI in the fourth to make it 7-0 Warriors. Huntington would manage to get on the board late with an RBI double in the sixth inning, but that would be all as Savannah Bravo would shut down the Foresters all game on her way to earning her sixth win of the season for Tech in the 7-1 victory. Bravo would finish the game with six strikeouts, allowing five hits and one run as she has now won all six outings she has appeared in this season, throwing complete games in every one of them.

Game two would have a different outcome as the Foresters would get the better of Indiana Tech in this one. Things got started in the action packed second inning where there would be nine total runs scored. In the top half of the inning, the Foresters would score three straight runs on bases loaded walks before a two-RBI double drove in two more runs to give them a 5-0 lead. Tech would respond with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Bella Brock would hit a sacrifice fly, Kaelie Kugler would hit an RBI double, and Maire Trouba would hit a two-RBI double to get the Warriors within one. After a calming third innings, things would heat back up in the fourth and fifth innings as the Foresters poured it on. Huntington would score five runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to take a commanding 13-4 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning as the Warriors would need at least two runs to prolong the game. However, the Orange & Black would go down in order in the fifth, dropping game two of the doubleheader 13-4. Melissa Cabrera would pitch all five innings for the Warriors earning the loss.

Indiana Tech moves to 9-2 overall on the season after splitting the series with Huntington. The Warriors will now head to Melbourne, Florida to participate in the Space Coast Games, where they will play ten games over five days from March 10th-14th.
