CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Indiana Tech men's hockey team traveled to Chesterfield, Missouri, on Thursday to compete in the first round of the ACHA Men's Hockey National Tournament, in which their season came to an end at the hands of Calvin University.
The Warriors entered the tournament as the 18th seed, facing the 15-seeded Knights from Calvin. The opening twenty minutes were toe-to-toe. Despite the Warriors firing over double the shots as the Knights, 14-6, Tech could not find the net as the opening period came to a close with the score still tied at 0. In the second period, the Knights broke the deadlock just under four minutes in and really took control as they doubled their tally just a minute later. Needing an answer, the Warriors drew one back off the stick of
Mason Bazaluk, assisted by
Alex Arnold and
Isaiah Gagerman just two minutes after the Knights had doubled their lead. Just a couple minutes later, Calvin regained the momentum as they knocked in their third goal of the period to reestablish a two-goal lead heading into the third period. The Orange and Black struggled to get anything going in the third frame as the Knights continued to maintain their grip on the game. Calvin added two more in the third period to put the game out of reach and down Tech 5-1.
The Warriors finished the season at 25-13 and the conference season with a 20-4 record. Tech claimed the WHAC regular season title for the fourth year in a row and reclaimed the WHAC tournament title, winning their third in four years.
