FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team wrapped up their regular season with a pair of sweeps on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Warriors welcomed Warner University (Fla.) to the Schaefer Center, where Tech took care of business in dominant fashion, 3-0. On Saturday, the Warriors honored their seniors, and in their last regular season game in the Orange and Black, they pulled off the upset over the No. 13 ranked Gray Wolves, 3-0.
In Friday's match, the Warriors controlled things right from the start as they opened and closed the first set on 5-0 runs to take the opener 25-9. Again, in the second set, Tech seized control in the early goings with a 5-0 run to double the Royals score, 14-7. From there, Tech maintained their lead, taking the second set 25-15. The Royals held the lead at the start of the third set, but trailing 6-9, a kill from
Jon Fonda sparked an 8-0 run to put Tech up 14-9. Once Tech took control of the lead, they weren't giving it up, as they claimed the set 25-16.
Saturday, the Warriors recognized their seniors before the match with Lourdes. The Warriors had high energy from the beginning and traded points with the conference's top seed. Pairing two 3-0 runs gave Tech a five-point advantage, 17-12, and their first breathing room of the set. The Gray Wolves cut Tech's lead to two, but a 6-0 run response from the Warriors put the set out of reach, winning 25-18. The second set was like the first, as Tech paired two 3-0 runs to establish a little space between the sides, this time 17-13. The two squads went shot for shot until a 4-1 run, capped off by a kill from
Mason Milan, gave Tech set two, 25-18. Tech got off to another great start in the third set, doubling the Gray Wolves points for a 10-5 lead. The visitors wouldn't go away, however. Despite never leading, Lourdes leveled the game three times in the closing stages until back-to-back kills from
Daynte Stewart closed the match and gave the Warriors set three, 26-24.
The Warriors finish the regular season 24-5 and 14-4 in conference and prepare for the WHAC Tournament beginning on Tuesday.
