Tech Softball Splits Doubleheader with Aquinas in Pair of One Run Games

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team played a doubleheader against Aquinas College on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Park, taking game one and falling in game two.

The first game of the day would be a pitching duel between Tech's Savannah Bravo and Aquinas' Grace Maguire. Both would pitch complete games in the tight one run affair. Maguire would finish with a line of 6.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, and 6 K's in a stellar performance for the Saints. Bravo would dominate the Saints finishing with a stat line of 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 7 K's. Bravo would post her eighth shutout of the season and throw her 19th complete game of the year in 22 starts! Bravo gets the win, her 17th of the season as the Warriors took game one by a narrow 1-0 scoreline. Thankfully for Bravo and the Warriors, one run would be enough to get the win. That run would come just two batters into the game for Tech. Kenadee Schnick opened the game with a leadoff double and then would advance to third on a passed ball. Alyssa Fox would come up to the plate next and hit a single to left field to drive home Schnick, which would prove to be the game winning run. Schnick and Amanda Parker would both record multi-hit games for the Orange & Black.

The second game of the doubleheader would be slugfest compared to game one. The Warriors would get on the board first in game two in a similar fashion as game one, with Kenadee Schnick and Alyssa Fox making it happen again. Both teams would pick up one run in the second inning. The Warriors run would come on a sacrifice fly from Brooke Hughes allowing Bella Brock to score and giving Tech a 2-1 lead. The Saints would regain the lead in the third with two runs in the inning, but Fox would homer to left center field to tie it up at three after three. The fourth inning would go scoreless, but the fifth inning would have three runs. Aquinas would score two and Fox would pick up another RBI for the Warriors with a single through the right side bringing home Amanda Parker. The Saints would lead 5-4 heading into the final inning of action and would pick up a huge run in the top of the seventh on a solo blast to straight away center to put their lead at two runs. That extra run would prove to be the difference because the Warriors would try to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Alyssa Fox would knock in her fourth RBI of the game with a double to left center field to drive in Schnick to cut the lead won to one. Unfortunately, the Warriors would be unable to get Fox home to tie the game as she would be stranded at second and the Saints would hang on to win it 6-5. Fox had a standout performance with three hits in four at bats, including a single, double, and home run, on her way to four RBIs and one run scored. Parker would record her second two hit game of the day, while also scoring a run in three at bats. Grace Butcher would start the game on the mound for the Orange & Black, finishing with 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, and 1 K. Jayme Koning would also pitch in the game going 4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, and 2 K's. Butcher would get the loss, falling to 5-2 on the season.

The Warriors move to 32-11 overall on the season and 12-6 in WHAC play. Tech will hit the road for a makeup doubleheader against Siena Heights University on Monday, April 22nd at 3:30pm in Adrian Michigan. This will be the Warriors fourth doubleheader gameday in the last five days as they enter the final week of the regular season.
