FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team ended their regular season over the weekend with a four-game series hosting Cornerstone University. On Friday, game two took extra innings, but the Warriors took both ends of the doubleheader, 10-4 in game one and 8-7 in game two. After honoring the seniors before game one on Saturday, the Warriors were triumphant in the doubleheader, winning 19-4 and 7-3.
Tech came out hot in the first inning, scoring three runs to grab an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. The two sides were dormant in the next two innings, but the hosts added another run to their lead in the fourth. Tech's offense took off in the sixth as they drove in six runs to balloon their lead to 10-0. The Golden Eagles comeback effort of four runs in the seventh came up short as Tech took the opener 10-4.
Ben Morrison led the Warriors' offense with two hits in three at-bats and three RBIs.
Grant Besser got the win on the mound, throwing five innings. He allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out seven.
In game two, the Warriors grabbed another early lead with one run in the first inning, but this lead was short-lived as the visitors plated two in the second to grab their first lead of the series. Tech quickly responded, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third to establish a 7-2 lead. The two sides were scoreless over the next three innings, but Cornerstone broke the stalemate with a run in the seventh and drew level with four runs in the eighth, which would force extra innings.
Ben Morrison drew a game-winning walk in the bottom of the tenth as
Keelan Dunkle scored to put the Orange and Black up 8-7.
Patrick McGinn led the Warriors with three RBIs, and Morrison led Tech in hits again, going two for four.
Ryan Uhlenhake picked up the win on the bump, throwing 2.1 innings without allowing a hit or run and striking out four.
The Warriors' offense was active early and often in the third game of the series as the Warriors hung six runs in the opening frame, grabbing a 6-1 lead. Tech was held scoreless in the second but got back on the board with one run in the third. Over the next two innings, the Orange and Black tallied twelve runs, five in the fourth and seven in the fifth, taking a 19-4 lead, which would be the final score.
Eli MacDonald led the Warrior offense, going two for two with four RBIs and two home runs.
Tristan Osika added a home run as well.
Coley Stevens earned the win in game three, throwing five innings in which he gave up seven hits and four runs, walked two, and struck out seven.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the series' final game, but the Warriors held the lead after the first inning, 2-1. Inning two was a copy of the first, as Cornerstone recorded one run while the Warriors scored two. The visitors cut the lead to one run in the third but were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Tech added one run in the fourth, fifth, and seventh on their way to a 7-3 victory.
Patrick McGinn continued to swing a hot bat, going two for three with a team-high two RBIs.
Tristan Osika hit his second home run of the day, and
Parker Bates got in on the action with a no-doubter over the left-field fence.
Matt McKeon picked up the win in game four, throwing three innings. He allowed zero hits, walked two, and struck out two while on the mound.
