ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to start the postseason in the opening round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Tech, the No. 3 seed, opened the WHAC Tournament, facing off against the No. 6 seed, Aquinas College. The Orange and Black came out on top, 7-5, to advance to the next round.
The Saints got on the board first, scoring one run in the first frame to grab an early lead. Two innings later, Aquinas added two more runs to their tally, leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third. Tech's offense came alive in the fifth after being held scoreless through the first two innings, scoring five runs to take their first lead of the afternoon. The Orange and Black added two more runs over the next two innings, with one run in the fourth and one in the fifth. Aquinas pulled two back in the sixth, but the Warriors shut down the Saints' offense through the remainder of the game, winning 7-5.
Parker Bates led the Warriors offense with three hits in five at-bats. He had two RBIs and one home run.
Brice Stultz also added two RBIs, with one hit in two at-bats.
Grant Besser went the distance on the mound, allowing ten hits and five runs (three earned). He walked three and struck out eight of the 42 batters he faced.
The Warriors remain in the winner's bracket and face off against the No. 2 seed and host of their pod, Concordia University, on Thursday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
