ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team traveled to Adrian, Michigan, on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series with the Siena Heights Saints. In the two games on Saturday, the Warriors continued their winning ways, extending their streak to nine straight games with 4-0 and 4-3 victories. On Sunday, Tech picked up another two wins, 9-3 and 5-2.
In the series opener,
Grant Besser started on the mound for Tech and went the distance, throwing a complete game shutout. The lefty allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out thirteen of the 25 batters he faced. Offensively for the Warriors,
Patrick McGinn had a day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a run scored.
Jack Ferguson led the squad in RBIs with three, going 2 for 3 at the plate with two home runs, a two-run shot in the second inning, and a solo home run in the sixth.
Eli MacDonald picked up the other RBI for Tech with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Game two was scoreless through the first six innings until a solo home run from
Parker Bates in the top of the seventh put the Warriors on top. Later in the seventh,
Brice Stultz sent a two-run shot over the wall to put Tech up 3-0. The Saints matched Tech with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the seventh. After putting the Warriors on top in the seventh, Bates stepped up again with an RBI single in the eighth, which would be the winning run.
Seth Leininger got the win on the mound, and
Kade Robinson came on in relief to pick up the save.
In the third game of the series, the two sides were even through the scheduled seven innings, forcing extras. In the top of the eighth inning, the Warrior's offense exploded for six runs to put them up 9-3 and close the door on the Saints.
Jaden Miller led the Orange and Black with three RBIs, going 1 for 4 at the dish.
Tyler Stahl and
Eli MacDonald both added two RBIs on two hits. Playing a different role than usual,
Zach Zaborowski came on in the seventh inning to close the game on the mound and picked up the win after blanking the Saints and striking out four.
Tech jumped to an early lead with two runs scored in the first frame. The hosts responded by holding the Warrior's offense stagnant for the next four innings. The Saints also added one run in the second and third innings to level the game. A pair of doubles in the sixth inning put the Orange and Black back on top, scoring three runs in the frame.
Nick Miller took care of business in his one trip to the plate, driving in two of Tech's five runs with one swing to lead the team in RBIs.
Matt McKeon didn't get the start but picked up the win on the mound as he threw four innings, allowing four hits and struck out one batter.
Up next, the Warriors will host Defiance College for a single nine-inning game on Wednesday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
