ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After defeating Aquinas College in the opening game of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on Wednesday afternoon, the Warriors turned their attention to the hosts, Concordia University, on Thursday afternoon with a spot in the Ann Arbor Pod final on the line. An offensive explosion gave Tech the result they were searching for, cruising past the Cardinals 24-2.
Tech wasted no time getting on the board and did so in a big way as they brought home thirteen runs in the top of the first inning. The Orange and Black continued to add to their lead with one run in the second and two in the third, taking a 16-0 lead after three innings.
Zach Zaborowski kept the Cardinals' offense at bay, as he shut them down through the first five innings, by which time the Warriors had added four more runs and were leading 20-0. The hosts finally broke through, adding two runs in the sixth, but the Warriors pitching staff of Zaborowski and
Adam Besser shut down the Cardinals for the remainder of the game. Tech added four more runs to their tally, with one in the seventh and three in the eighth, on their way to a 24-2 victory.
Zaborowski picked up the win on the mound, throwing seven innings during which he allowed five hits and two runs while walking three and striking out seven.
Ben Morrison led the Warriors offense with five hits in five at-bats and seven RBIs.
Eli MacDonald added four RBIs on two hits in six at-bats.
Parker Bates and
Brice Stultz added three RBIs each, with Bates going three for six and Stultz going two for five.
The Warriors await the winner of Concordia and Aquinas in the Pod Championship on Friday, with the first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
