DEFIANCE, Ohio – It was a rough start to conference play for the first year WHAC member, Defiance College, on Wednesday afternoon. The Indiana Tech men's soccer team didn't hold back in their second conference game of the season, scoring ten goals against the Yellow Jackets, and posting their highest goal total since a 10-1 win over Shawnee State University in 2017.
The Warriors would equally spread the wealth in the game, as no player scored more than once with a record high ten different goal scorers.
Mark Mc Daid would open the scoring for Tech with a goal in the 12
th minute of the game off an assist from
Andreas Michael. This marks the second straight game with a goal for Mc Daid and the third of the season to lead the Warriors.
Xambos Statiotis would get the first goal of his Tech career in his second season with the Orange & Black, scoring on a pass from
Alex Mihov in the 20
th minute to put the Warriors up 2-0.
Saladin Lekhal would score his second goal of the season in this one to make it 3-0 in the 29
th minute.
Tiago Dias (assisted by Mihov) and Michael would score just 29 seconds apart late in the half, giving Tech a commanding 5-0 lead at the halftime whistle.
In the second half, the story would be the same with the Warriors continuing to push for more, totaling 25 shots to finish with a whopping 51 on the day!
Geo Lake,
Gui Moreira (assisted by Lekhal), and
Joao Teixeira (assisted by
Liam Arthur) would all open their Tech goal accounts in the second half, while Arthur and
Douglas Appiah Kubi would also add goals in the period as the score ballooned up to 10-0.
Alex Kyriakides would make the start in goal and earn his fourth win of the season, playing the first 45 minutes and making two saves.
David Martinez would come into the game for the second half, playing the last 45 minutes and preserving the shutout for the Warriors.
The Warriors move to 3-1-2 overall on the season and improve to 2-0 in WHAC play. Tech will be back on the road for their next contest on Saturday, September 21
st at 4:30pm in Grand Rapids, Michigan when they play Cornerstone University in another WHAC contest.
