LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team traveled to Michigan Friday afternoon for back-to-back Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) matchups. The first stop for the Orange and Black was in Dearborn for a contest with the Wolverines of UM-Dearborn before traveling to Livonia on Saturday to face Madonna University.
In Dearborn on Friday, the Warriors were dominant right out of the gate as a 10-3 run to start the first set put Tech in position to take the opener 25-22. Set two had a closer start, but with a 9-7 lead, Tech's 6-0 run put them up eight, which was too much for the Wolverines to recover. After going down 4-0 to start the third set, the Warriors regained momentum on their way to a 25-16 set win and a 3-0 sweep. Leading the Warriors was
Noelle VanOort with 11 kills, 4 aces, and 12 digs,
Taylor Sorg with 2 blocks, and
Sara Gomperts with 28 assists.
At Madonna on Saturday, the Orange and Black picked up where they left off, stringing together multiple runs to take a 21-9 advantage before settling for a 25-17 first-set win. The second set was a tighter contest than the opener, as both sides matched each other step-for-step the whole way, but with their backs against the wall, trailing 24-23, the Warriors closed the set on a 3-1 run to go up 2-0 in the match. The Crusaders tripped up the Warriors in the third set, grabbing control early and never relinquishing their lead, taking the set 25-13. The fourth set played out similarly to the second as the two sides went toe-to-toe until Tech could close the set with a 3-1 run and take the match.
Noelle VanOort led the attack with 20 kills.
Katie Gostovich, VanOort, and
Hannah Teich all had one ace.
Taylor Sorg posted a team-high 5 blocks.
Sara Gomperts added 36 assists to her tally, and
Madison Mayes led the Warriors with 17 digs.
Tech now sits at 10-7 on the season and 4-1 in WHAC play. The Warriors return home for their next match on Wednesday as they host Siena Heights at 7:00 p.m.
