Warriors Dominate Early but Settle for Draw with Cleary

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team battled against Cleary University on Wednesday night in a crucial WHAC contest between two teams fighting for a playoff spot. With the season winding down and three points up for grabs, this game could have major implications on playoff seeding come tournament time.

The Warriors would come out of the gate firing on all cylinders. Tech would bombard the Cleary keeper with shots throughout the first half with twelve total and seven on target in the first 45 minutes. Midway through the first half, Jordan Kallet sent a corner kick into the box where chaos would ensue with the Cleary defenders and keeper blocking multiple shots toward goal. With the ball bouncing around the box, Cassie Palazzolo would finally smash it home to put the Warriors in front. Diana Ramirez would pick up an assist on the goal. Tech would continue to put on the pressure in the first half, forcing the Cleary goalie into some impressive saves to keep it just a one goal game. The Warriors would be unlucky to only be up 1-0 at the halftime break but had to feel confident in the way they played. The second half would begin with a similar start with the Warriors creating the opening chance. Over the next 20 minutes Cleary would start to gain some momentum with the game becoming a more back and forth affair. In the 69th minute, the Cougars would turn that momentum into an equalizer with a worldie of a goal from way outside the box, as the ball snuck in just over the keeper's outstretched hand and under the bar. From there it was all Cleary in control as the Warriors tried to hang on for at least a point. Sara Cogoli and the Warriors defense, including Payton Kuhn and Emily Jiles would come up big down the stretch as the offense struggled to create chances. Both sides would control parts of the game but would have to settle for a 1-1 draw in the end. Cogoli finished the game with five saves.

The Warriors now sit at 2-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in WHAC play with three games to go. Tech will hit the road for a tough matchup with #24 Aquinas College on Saturday, October 18th at 12pm in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
