FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 16 ranked Indiana Tech men's soccer team hosted the University of Michigan-Dearborn in the regular season finale on Saturday evening at Warrior Athletic Field. The Warriors would defeat the Wolverines handedly with a 5-0 win on senior day.
The Warriors would honor 13 players for senior day prior to the match, including
Cuba Grant,
David Vang,
Mark Mc Daid,
Emerson Nieto,
Liam Arthur,
Jahiem Rose,
Mathias Lutzhoft,
Alvaro Martin,
Andreas Michael,
Tramaine Lawson,
Pana Georgiou,
Genildo Postimo, and
Harry Wharton. After the festivities concluded, Tech would focus their attention back to the task at hand. It was a must-win game for the Warriors as they came into it just one point behind Madonna University for first place in the WHAC. After a little bit of slow start, the Warriors would settle into the game and open the scoring in the 28
th minute when
Gui Moreira finished off an assist from
Liam Arthur. The goals would start flowing after that when
Jack Kennedy unleashed a rocket into the net in the 33
rd minute. Just 53 seconds later, Arthur would make it 3-0 for Tech, with
Fabian Hauer picking up the assists on both Kennedy's and Arthur's goals. In the second half, it would be much of the same for the Orange & Black.
Filip Maksimovic scored in the 60
th minute on an assist from
Alvaro Martin to make it 4-0 and
Genildo Postimo would bring it home in the 72
nd minute scoring a header goal on an assist from
Emre Baris. Tech would outshoot the Wolverines 28-4 in the game and win the corner kick battle 14-0 as they controlled the game the entire way.
Cuba Grant would earn the win in goal, playing 71 minutes, while
Alex Kyriakides played the final 19 minutes for Tech and made one save.
With the win, the Warriors would give themselves a shot at the WHAC title, but the celebrations would be short lived as the Warriors would find out that Madonna also won their game, giving them a one point lead and a second straight WHAC Regular Season Championship for the Crusaders. Tech would finish in second for the fourth straight season after three straight regular season titles.
The Warriors finish the regular season at 13-4-1 overall and 9-2-0 in WHAC play. Tech will now turn their attention to the WHAC Tournament as they look for a seventh straight tournament title! As the No. 2 seed, the Orange & Black will host the No. 7 seed Cornerstone University in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, November 1
st at 1pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
