FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #17 ranked Indiana Tech men's hockey team took the ice on Friday and Saturday for the first time in the 2025-26 season, playing a two-game series against Davenport University. The Warriors would win Friday night's homecoming thriller 2-1 but fall on the road in Grand Rapids 1-4 on Saturday night.
On Friday night,
Jeremy Dunmore would give the Warrior crowd something to cheer for, scoring the opening goal of the 2025-26 season in the first period against the Panthers.
Kayne Gagner and
Ian Vannelli would pick up assists on the powerplay goal as Tech led 1-0 at the first intermission. Midway through the second period,
Francesco Santaniello doubled the Warriors lead on an assist from freshman
Zane Myler. Tech would carry the 2-0 lead into the third, but there the Panthers would score on the powerplay to draw within one. However,
Gage Reimer would only allow the one goal in the cage for the Warriors, making 31 saves, as the Orange & Black would move to 1-0 to start the season.
Tech would follow their home victory with a road matchup at Davenport, travelling to Grand Rapids, Michigan Saturday night. In the first period, the Panthers would strike first, but
Ryan Doucette would tie it back up for the Warriors just a couple minutes later.
Pavel Svoboda would assist the goal and the game would be tied at one heading into the intermission. In the second period, Davenport would find the back of the net twice to take a 3-1 lead into the third period, where they would add one more goal to make it 4-1. The Warriors would be unable to get anything going after Doucette's goal, as they split the opening series of the season.
Gage Reimer would get the start again in goal for Tech and would make 18 saves.
The Warriors start the season at 1-1 overall and will be back in action next weekend for a two-game road series against Niagara University. Tech will play on Friday, October 10
th and Saturday, October 11
th in Niagara, New York.
