Box Score 1 FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #9 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team kicked off homecoming weekend with a 3-0 win at home on Friday and a 2-0 road win on Saturday over Grand Valley State University.
After a scoreless first period, the Warriors would score the opening goal midway through the second. Tech would pick up a second goal in the final minutes of the period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Solange Basque and
Sylvie Legault would score the goals for the Warriors in the second period. Tech would open the third with another goal. This time it was
Ashley Episcopo scoring on the powerplay with
Halle Murray and
Allison Greene picking up the assists. The Warriors would win the game 3-0, posting their first shutout of the season and giving the homecoming crowd an exciting show to start the night as the men's side also won to end the night.
Ashtyn Berthiaume earned the win in goal, making 21 saves.
On Saturday, Tech would travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan for the second game in the series against the Lakers.
Halle Murray and
Allison Greene would continue their strong start to the season as they would link up for the Warriors first goal of the game midway through the first period. In the second period,
Daphnee Gagnon would score on an assist from
Ashley Episcopo to make it 2-0 Tech. The third period would finish scoreless as the Warriors posted their second straight shutout win against the Lakers and making it a 5-0 advantage over the two games.
Rose Lennon would pick up the win in goal for Tech, making 25 saves.
The Warriors improve to 4-0 overall and in 4-0 in CCWHA play after sweeping both opening series of the season. Tech will face a tough test in their next series as they host #4 Midland University at the PSM Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Friday, October 11
th at 7pm and Saturday, October 12
th at 2pm.
