Warriors Trade Wins with Cumberland in Season-Opener

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech baseball team kicked off their 2025 campaign with a trip to Lebanon, Tennessee, to take on Cumberland University in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Orange and Black opened the season with a win in game one of the doubleheader, 8-3, before falling in game two, 1-4.

In the opener, the Orange and Black would open the scoring with two runs in the second inning off a two-run home run from Garrett Rainey. Tech added four more in the fourth as Logan Rybraczyk kicked off the inning with an RBI single to the gap in left-center. Luke Huerta added an RBI single up the middle for the Warrior's second run of the inning, and Ben Morrison capped off the big inning with a two-RBI double to left. In the fifth, Rainey picked up his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly, which scored Jacoby Roberson, followed by an Alex Watkins single into left-center that scored Jack Ferguson. Noah Redmon picked up the win on the mound in his first start as a Warrior, throwing four innings in which he allowed two hits, gave up zero runs, and struck out two of the 16 batters faced. Grant Besser came on in relief, throwing three innings. He gave up four hits and three runs while striking out three of the 14 batters he faced.

In game two, the hosts got on the board quickly, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cumberland followed it up in the second with another run before tallying their fourth in the fourth inning to go up 4-0. Luke Huerta accounted for the Warriors' lone run with a solo shot to left field in the top of the sixth. Brycen Hannah led the Warriors in hits with two in three at-bats.

The Warriors are back in action on Friday, February 21, as they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to take on the No. 5 ranked Patriots from the University of the Cumberlands. Friday's match-up will kick off a three-game series in Kentucky, with a game each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
