Warriors Fall Out of WHAC Tournament at the Hands of Cornerstone

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team was back in action on Friday evening, hosting Cornerstone University for the WHAC Tournament Semifinal. In a tough battle, the Warriors fell to Cornerstone 61-63, knocking them out of the conference tournament.

The opening ten minutes was a back-and-forth affair which saw both sides hold narrow leads, but a triple from Korryn Smith with 2:31 left put Tech up 15-12, the lead they would hold going into the second quarter. To start the second quarter, the Warriors built a larger lead, stretching to as much as nine points with eight minutes left before the break. Over the next four and a half minutes, a 16-1 run from the Golden Eagles turned the tides of the contest, leading them to a 33-29 lead over Tech heading into the midway break. Out of the break, the two sides matched each other shot for shot in the third, both tallying 12 points while the Golden Eagles maintained their four-point advantage heading into the fourth. The fourth was no different than the third, as the Golden Eagles answered every attempt Tech made to cut into their lead, clinging to their narrow advantage. With under a minute to go, the visitors extended the margin to seven points. In a chaotic final 30 seconds, the Warriors cut the lead to two, but fell short with their comeback attempt, falling 61-63

Taylor Covington led the Warriors with 16 points, two rebounds, and five assists. Genevieve Decker posted 14 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.

Having already punched their NAIA National Tournament ticket, the Warriors await to see where they will go for the opening rounds, which will be announced on March 6 at 6:00 p.m. CST.
