Tech Takes One of Four at Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Warrior baseball team hit the road for a four-game series at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee, over the weekend. The Warriors opened the weekend with a 7-8 loss on Friday. On Saturday, the Warriors dropped both ends of the doubleheader 0-2 and 1-17. On Sunday, Tech took the final game of the series 9-3.

In the series opener, the hosts got on the scoreboard first, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Tech responded cutting the lead in half in the top half of the third, but the Lions added another to their tally in the sixth. The Warriors cut the lead to just one with a two-run seventh inning, but the hosts plated three in their half of the seventh to extend the lead back to four. In the last inning, Tech scored three as their comeback attempt came up just short.

Game two was a pitching battle that ended in favor of the hosts. The difference between the two sides was a two-run second inning for the Lions, while they held the Warriors offense scoreless across the seven-inning contest.

In the third game, the host's offense exploded for 11 runs in the second inning, gabbing a sizable lead. The Warriors tallied one run in the third but were unable to overcome the early deficit. The Lions added six more runs across the final four innings on their way to a 17-run total.

In the series finale, the Warriors bats were hot early as they scored runs in each of the first five innings. Tech tallied one run in each of the first two innings, two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. The Warriors pitching staff kept the Lions scoreless through eight innings. The Lions scored three in the ninth but came up short as Tech sealed the victory. Kade Robinson was credited with the win on the mound.

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to New Albany, Indiana to take on Indiana University Southeast in a three-game series that concludes on Wednesday.
