WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball team continued their spring break trip down in Florida but took a break from the Space Coast Games action with back-to-back doubleheaders in Miami. Tech would play at #19 St. Thomas University on Monday and Keiser University on Tuesday.
The Warriors would face a tough test against one of the better teams in the country in St. Thomas on Saturday. The Bobcats would enter the day at 16-3 overall and improve to 18-3 after knocking off the Warriors in both games. Tech would drop game one 0-9 and game two 2-11. The Warriors would lead 2-0 after the top of the second inning in game two after RBIs from
Melissa Cabrera and
Maire Trouba, but an eight run second inning for the Bobcats would seal the Warriors fate in the end.
Things would go much better for the Warriors against a good Keiser side on Sunday as Tech would take both games of the doubleheader. The Orange & Black would win game one 6-4 in an eight-inning thriller and take game two 4-2.
Maire Trouba would put Tech ahead in the third inning of game one with an RBI double to left centerfield before the Seahawks went on top in the fourth inning on a two-run homer.
Allison Davis would tie the game back up with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Tied 2-2 after seven innings, the game would head to extras where the Warriors would put up four runs in the eighth, powered by an RBI single by
Melissa Cabrera and a huge three run homer by freshman
Victoria Boyer to make it 6-2. Tech would hold on to win 6-4 with
Savannah Bravo earning the win on the mound, pitching all eight innings, allowing six hits, four runs with only two earned, and throwing six strikeouts. Game two would go back and forth to start with ties at 1-1 and 2-2 before Tech added two runs in the fifth inning to make it 4-2. The Warriors would not allow another run, making it a sweep over the Seahawks. Cabrera would continue her strong form with two RBIs in game two, while Boyer and
Kiersten Delaney would each add one.
Carlye Walter would earn the win on the mound for Tech, allowing just five hits, two runs, and no earned runs.
The Warriors now sit at 8-6 overall on the season and are currently 6-2 on their spring break trip with four more games to come. They will head back to Melbourne, Florida for doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday, March 13th and 14th. On Thursday, Tech will play Cottey College (Mo.) and the University of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) and on Friday, Tech will play Montreat College (N.C.) and Florida National University.
