Warriors Tally 27 in Series Sweep of Rochester Christian

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After having both doubleheaders postponed for the weekend, the Warrior baseball team was back in action on Monday afternoon as they opened their conference campaign by hosting Rochester Christian University. In the series opener, the Orange and Black took care of business, winning 7-1. In game two of the series, the Warriors' offense was red hot as Tech won game two 20-2 to take both ends of the doubleheader.

In the series opener, Rochester jumped to an early lead with a solo home run with their second at-bat. The lone run in the top of the first inning would account for all the visitor's offense. Rochester's lead was short-lived, however, as Tech answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Tech took their first lead in the second as they brought in two more runs. Grant Besser continued to deal on the mound, holding the Warriors scoreless in the third. The Orange and Black added three more runs in the third to extend their lead to 6-1. A Jack Ferguson solo shot in the fourth added one more insurance run for the Warriors as they went on to win 7-1. Alex Watkins led the Warriors' offense going three for three at the plate with one RBI. Besser earned the win on the mound in game one, throwing five innings, in which he allowed two hits and one run while striking out six of the 20 batters he faced.

Tech was first out of the blocks in game two, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning to grab an early lead. Tech looked to add to their lead in the second as Jack Ferguson kicked off the scoring with a two-run home run over the center field fence. In the next at-bat, Logan Rybarczyk made it back-to-back jacks to dead center for the Warriors with a solo home run, which would account for three of Tech's five runs in the second. Tech added another run in the bottom of the third, extending their lead to an 8-0 margin. The Warriors offense stayed hot through the remainder of the contest, scoring an additional 12 runs in their final three innings as they'd go on to win 20-2 in seven innings. The Warriors were led by Brycen Hannah who went four for five with three RBIs. Garrett Rainey also added three RBIs on two hits in four at-bats. Noah Redmon earned the win on the bump, tossing five innings in which he allowed two hits and zero runs while striking out six of the 17 batters he faced.

Tech sits at 10-7 on the season and opens conference play with a 2-0 record after the series sweep. Up next, the Warriors host the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, starting at 1:00 p.m.
