FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warrior baseball team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, making up their second postponed doubleheader from this past weekend, facing the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines. Like Monday's doubleheader, the Warriors completed the series sweep, winning game one 8-5 and game two 14-2 in seven innings.
In the series opener, the visitors wasted no time getting on the scoreboard sending a two-run home run over the centerfield fence. Tech quickly responded with four runs off a single through the gap at short from
Jordan Malott and a three-run blast from
Garrett Rainey. After three scoreless innings from both sides, the Warriors offense struck again with three runs in the fifth as
Ben Morrison drove in a run and Tech capitalized on a couple of Wolverine miscues. At the top of the sixth, the visitors added three runs to their tally, cutting the lead to a two-run margin of 7-5. In the bottom half of the inning, Morrison's bat stayed hot, driving in another run, and adding some insurance to the Orange and Black lead. Rainey led the side in RBIs with three, all coming from one swing. Morrison led the side in hits, going three for four at the plate and tallying two RBIs.
Adam Besser picked up the win on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings. He allowed three hits and three runs while striking out five of the 21 batters he faced.
The bats stayed hot for the Orange and Black in game two. Tech opened the scoring with a solo shot from
Ben Morrison in the first inning, followed shortly by a solo shot from
Brycen Hannah, which was his first homerun in the Orange and Black. An inning later, it was Morrison with another long ball, this time a grand slam over the right field fence to extend Tech's lead to 6-0. In the third inning, Hannah went yard for the second time in the game with another solo shot followed by a sac fly from
Luke Huerta to put Tech up 8-0. Tech added six more runs in the fourth off a single from Malott which scored
Jorge Santana, Hannah hit a sac fly to left, adding another RBI to his tally,
Garrett Rainey hit the Warriors' fifth home run of the contest, a two-run shot, and
Logan Rybarczyk picked up two RBIs. The visitors plated two runs in the seventh, but Tech still held a 10-run lead, ending the game after seven innings. Morrison led the side with five RBIs while going two for two at the dish.
Dale Jorgensen picked up the win on the bump after throwing five innings. He allowed one hit and zero runs during his outing, striking out five of the 18 batters he faced.
Tech moves to 12-7 on the season and opens conference play with four straight wins, sitting at 4-0. The Warriors have a quick turnaround as they travel to Indiana Wesleyan for a single nine-inning game on Wednesday, March 19. First pitch at the Wildcat Baseball Field is set for 4:30 p.m.
