SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team's season came to an end in the Round of 16 of the NAIA National Tournament on Friday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa at the Tyson Event Center. After winning the Fort Wayne Bracket with back-to-back upsets, the Warriors were matched up with the No. 2 seeded Lions from Freed-Hardeman University. A slow first half plagued the Warriors' postseason run, resulting in a Round of 16 exit for the second straight year with a 54-43 defeat.
The opening stages of the first quarter were a defensive display as neither side found the bucket through the first two and a half minutes. Unfortunately for the Orange and Black, the Lions offense found their footing first, opening on a 7-0 run.
Taylor Covington got Tech on the board with 5:44 left in the first, but the Lions carried a 14-6 lead into the second quarter. Tech's offensive struggles continued in the second frame which allowed the Lions to extend their lead to its largest of the contest, 13, heading into the midway break. Out of the break, the Warriors opened the half on a 7-0 run, cutting the Lions lead to four with just over five minutes to go in the quarter. The No. 2 seed responded quickly though, as their defense held Tech to just three points in the final five minutes of the third, while their offense pushed the lead back to 11 points going into the fourth quarter. Tech wouldn't go down easily though, as they again cut into the Lions' lead, shrinking the margin to seven with 5:18 left to go. Despite the effort, the Warriors were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 54-43.
Genevieve Decker was the lone Warrior in double-figures with 11 points, six rebounds, and one assist.
Juliana Burris added eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Lauren Barton led the side in rebounds with 10 while adding five points.
Tech's tournament run ends in the Round of 16 for the second straight year, finishing the season with a 27-6 record. The Orange and Black claimed the WHAC regular season title with a 19-1 record, which is their fourth straight regular season title.
