Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors Fall in Four Against No. 10 Cornerstone

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warrior men's volleyball team returned to the floor on Saturday afternoon at home as they welcomed the No. 10 ranked Golden Eagles from Cornerstone University to the Schaefer Center. After a tough-fought battle, the result was similar to their meeting in Grand Rapids, as the Warriors fell in four sets to the top ten foe.

The Warriors got off to a strong start in the opening set, taking a 6-1 lead in the early going. The visitors battled back, taking their first lead of the set at the 10-9 mark, making things interesting. After multiple lead changes, a 5-0 run from the Golden Eagles put them up 22-17. Down to their last point, the Warriors cut into the lead, making it a two-point game, but couldn't complete the comeback as Cornerstone took the opening set 25-22. Again, in the second set, there was little to separate the two sides until the closing points. Trailing 21-20, the Warriors strung together a short three-point burst which would ultimately lead to a 25-23 victory, leveling the match at one set apiece. The third set was a cycle as the Golden Eagles would take the lead, then the Warriors would respond with a run to level the score. As the trend continued and the Warriors leveled the score at 21, the visitors put an end to the cycle, closing the set on a 5-2 run to retake the advantage in the match. In the fourth set, the Warriors took control early as a 7-2 run put them on top 13-9. The Orange and Black maintained their control until six unanswered points from Cornerstone put the visitors up 21-18. Once Cornerstone had momentum, the Warriors were unable to reverse the tides, falling in the fourth 22-25.

Dylan Poore and Ben Rosenow led the attack with 10 kills apiece, while Rosenow also led the side with eight digs. Jensen Yarosh tallied two aces in the contest. Zack Karns was the big man up front for Tech with six blocks. Daniel Mitsin added 44 assists to his season tally.

The Warriors fall to 10-11 on the year and move to 9-4 in conference play. Up next, the Warriors will host No. 4 Lawrence Tech on Tuesday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Schaefer Center.
