Warriors Fall in Tough Battle with No. 4 Lawrence Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team hit the floor on Tuesday evening, hosting the No. 4-ranked Blue Devils from Lawrence Tech. Despite a hard-fought battle in their first meeting of the season, the Warriors came up short as the visitors proved why they're a top-five team, downing Tech in straight sets.

It was a fast start to the first set for the Warriors as they grabbed a 5-2 lead early. The Blue Devils fought back quickly, leveling the score at 10. The Orange and Black had an answer for the top-five foe in the form of an 8-3 run to go up 18-13. It was the Blue Devils turn to go on a run, going 7-2 to knot the score at 20. The final stage of the opener was a battle in which the Blue Devils came out on top 26-24. After finding their feet in the back half of the first set, the visitors carried that momentum into set two as they won the race to 10, leading 10-4. From there, the remainder of the set was all Lawrence Tech as they took it 25-15, going up 2-0 in the match. The third set played out like the first. The Warriors held a narrow lead through the opening points and were able to ward off any attempt the Blue Devils made at swiping the lead, until a 6-1 run from the visitors put them up for the first time in the set, 18-17. Another three-run burst from the Blue Devils put them up 22-20, but the Orange and Black would battle back to level the score at 23. From there, the two sides matched each other point for point until Lawrence Tech stole two straight, winning the set 30-28 to claim the match.

Dylan Poore led the Warriors' attack with 10 kills. Jensen Yarosh posted two aces. Logan Gamero was the game's leading blocker with five kills. Daniel Mitsin posted 30 assists and led the side with seven digs.

The Warriors move to 10-12 on the season and sit 9-5 in conference play. The Warriors return to action on Friday, April 4, with a trip to Southfield, Michigan, for another matchup with Lawrence Tech. First serve in Don Ridler Field House is set for 7:00 p.m.
