SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech baseball team wrapped up an action-packed week with a trip to Sylvania, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader with the Lourdes University Gray Wolves. On the road, the Warriors split the series with the Gray Wolves, falling 6-7 in extra innings to open the series, before dropping the offense-filled second game, 15-16.
Tech got off to a fast start in game one, scoring in each of the first two innings, two runs in the first and one in the second to lead 3-2. In the bottom of the third, Lourdes leveled the score at three. In the fourth, Tech added one more to their total, retaking the lead. In the fifth, the hosts took their first lead of the contest with a three-run frame, but Tech would answer in the sixth with two runs to knot the sides at six runs. After a scoreless seventh inning, the Gray Wolves sealed the contest with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Jack Ferguson led the Warriors' offense, going three for four at the dish with two RBIs.
Game two was filled with offense from both sides as they were deadlocked at 13 runs each heading into the final inning of the contest. In the top half of the seventh inning,
Tyler Fote hit a two-run home run to put the Warriors up two. In the bottom of the seventh, the hosts tallied one run before the game was delayed due to lightning. Upon the Warriors' return to Sylvania on Thursday afternoon, the Gray Wolves found the runs they were searching for to overcome Tech 16-15.
Luke Huerta and
Jordan Malott were the leaders of Tech's offense, both going three for four with four RBIs.
The Warriors are now 19-10 on the season and sit with a 10-2 record in the WHAC. The Warriors are back in action on Sunday, April 6, as they host the University of Northwestern Ohio at the Warriors Baseball Field in Fort Wayne.
