FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, making up their postponed doubleheader with Cornerstone University. In a low-scoring opening end of the series, the Warriors came out on top 4-3. After trailing early in game two, the Warriors dramatically completed the comeback, as a walk-off sealed the 8-7 victory.
In game one, the Warriors got things started quickly, scoring a run in the first inning, which was driven in by
Jordan Malott. After the first, the Warriors' bats went cold, as they were held scoreless through the next four innings. During that time, the Golden Eagles tallied three runs, taking the lead from Tech. In the sixth, the Warriors leveled the score as the visitors walked in two runs. After holding Cornerstone scoreless in the seventh, the Warriors had a chance to seal the victory in the bottom half of the inning and took their opportunity. With good plate discipline from the Warriors, the Golden Eagles walked in the winning run.
Colton Leatherman picked up the win on the mound, throwing 2.1 innings. During his outing, he gave up five hits, allowing zero runs, and struck out four of the 13 batters he faced.
In the night cap, the Golden Eagles had a hot start, plating five runs in the first and another in the second, jumping to an early 6-0 lead. After the first two innings,
Danny May came in to pitch for the Warriors and shut down the visitors' offense, holding them scoreless through the following five innings, before giving up one run in the eighth. During May's time on the mound, the Warrior offense fought their way back into the contest. Sparked by a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth from
Jack Ferguson, the Warriors would come back and take a 7-6 lead in the seventh inning. After Cornerstone's run in the eighth tied the game at seven, Tech was down to their final three outs to complete the comeback. A lead-off double from
Jorge Santana put the Orange and Black in a prime position to steal the game. With the next at-bat,
Ben Morrison capitalized on the runner in scoring position with a walk-off single down the left field line.
Coley Stevens picked up the win on the mound, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out one of the three batters faced.
The Warriors move to 21-10 on the season and 12-2 in conference play. The Warriors return to action on Wednesday as they host Indiana Wesleyan for a single nine-inning game starting at 5:00 p.m.
