Warriors Sting Yellow Jackets in Series Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team hosted the Defiance College Yellow Jackets in a WHAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon in a series that the Warriors take both games.

The Warriors would stay disciplined to start game one, scoring four runs in the second inning without registering a hit to take an early lead. In the third inning, Carly Basham would extend the Warriors lead to six with a two RBI single middle. Tech would take the 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning needing two more runs to finish off the game early by the eight-run rule. Kaelie Kugler would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the first and Maire Trouba would single up the middle to get the second run home as Tech walks it off in an 8-0 win. Savannah Bravo would pitch a scoreless five innings for the Warriors, allowing just one hit on the day and throwing six strikeouts. Trouba would lead the Warriors with three RBIs, while Basham had two.

In game two, the Warriors would get off to a good start scoring a run in three of the first four innings to go up 3-0. Defiance would get some momentum in the fifth inning though and score twice to cut the Warrior lead to just one. But Carlye Walter was able to work out of the jam and keep the Warriors in front. Walter would get the next six of eight batters out over the final two innings to finish off the yellow Jackets as Tech would win it 3-2 and pick up the series sweep. Walter would finish the game with 7.0 innings pitched, four strikeouts, five hits allowed, and two runs allowed. She would also grab an RBI at the plate in the first inning to start the scoring for the Warriors. Bella Brock and Maire Trouba would pick up the other two RBIs, while Taylor Hodgen would have a good game at the plate going two-for-two with a walk and scoring two runs.

The Warriors improve to 24-8 overall this season and 12-2 in conference play. They will face a huge test tomorrow afternoon when they play WHAC leader and NAIA #11 ranked Madonna University in a doubleheader that could very well decide the WHAC Champion between the top two teams in the conference.
