FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team hit the field on Tuesday evening as they played host to cross-town rival, Saint Francis, in a single nine-inning contest. Against the Cougars, the Warriors came away victorious, winning 11-9.
The two sides were level through the first frame as each team drove in one run in the inning. In the second, the visitors took the lead with another one-run inning. The Cougars' lead was short-lived, though, as the Orange and Black plated four runs off two home runs in the third inning, taking a 5-2 lead. The fourth inning was an offense explosion from both sides as the two squads matched each other with five runs each, while Tech still held on to their lead, 10-7. In the top half of the fifth, the Cougars struck again, pulling within one of the Warriors with two runs in the frame. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Warriors added one more run for insurance. Tech's pitching staff shut the door down the stretch, holding the Cougars scoreless through the final four innings to secure the 11-9 victory.
Josh Burton picked up the win on the mound, while
Colton Leatherman earned the save.
Garrett Rainey and
Alex Watkins led the Warriors in hits with two apiece, while
Jack Ferguson led Tech with three RBIs.
The Warriors are now 25-13 on the season and remain 15-5 in conference play. The Warriors have a quick turnaround as they host Indiana University Kokomo on Wednesday afternoon for another single nine-inning contest. First pitch with the IUK Cougars is set for 5:00 p.m. at Warrior Baseball Field.
