HOWELL, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team travelled north to Michigan for their final doubleheader of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon, where they would be outlasted by the Cougars 1-2 in ten innings in game one and 2-3 on a walk-off in game two.
Game one would be a pitching duel with offense hard to come by.
Savannah Bravo was dealing in the circle for the Warriors pitching nine and a third innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. The Warriors would get a run in the second inning when
Taylor Hodgen hit a deep fly ball to center field, allowing
Lylah Farrell to tag up and score from second with the help of a Cleary throwing error. Cleary would finally get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning tying the game at one. No runs would be scored in the next two frames as the game headed to extras innings. After two more scoreless innings, Cleary would finally win it in the tenth with a walk-off double. The Warriors would register eight hits on offense with
Melissa Cabrera and
Victoria Boyer each picking up two.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, game two would end in similar fashion. Cleary would get on the board first, but the Warriors would take the lead in the third inning with two runs.
Bella Brock would reach on a throwing error, allowing
Kaelie Kugler to score and
Kiersten Delaney would hit an RBI single to right field to bring Brock home.
Mallory Stinson would pitch five straight scoreless innings for the Warriors after the one run allowed in the first, but Cleary would gain some momentum in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs to walk it off and pick up the sweep over the Warriors. Stinson finished with 6.2 innings pitched, two strikeouts, and three runs allowed on eight hits. Kugler would record two of the Warriors seven hits in the game.
The Warriors finish the regular season 28-14 overall and 16-8 in WHAC play. They will now prepare for tournament action with the WHAC Tournament approaching next week. The tournament will take place at Pacesetter Park in Sylvania, Ohio, beginning on Wednesday, April 30th and concluding on Friday, May 2nd.
