Warriors Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Warriors baseball team kicked off the final week of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon as they split their doubleheader with the Concordia University Cardinals. On the road, the Warriors took game one 4-0 before falling in game two 7-15.

Game one of the doubleheader was a defensive battle. Tech opened the scoring in the second as Jordan Malott hit a solo shot over the left field wall. Two innings later, it was Malott with another long ball, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead after four. In the fifth, a sacrifice fly from Brycen Hannah would score Jacoby Roberson, giving Tech a 3-0 advantage. In the sixth, Tech would hit their third solo home run of the contest, this time off the bat of Jack Ferguson, giving the Orange and Black a 4-0 lead. Grant Besser shut down the Cardinals' offense on the bump, throwing the complete game to earn the win. During his outing, Besser allowed zero runs on six hits, walked none, and struck out eight of the 28 batters he faced.

In game two, the Warriors got off to a good start, scoring two runs in the first inning, and held a 2-1 lead after the frame. The Cardinals' offense came to life in the second inning, though, as they drove in five runs to take a 6-2 lead. Tech cut into the lead with a three-run fourth, but the Cardinals immediately responded with five more runs in the fifth, leading 11-5. Tech would tally one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but another four runs in the eighth from the hosts put the contest to rest. Jack Ferguson and Ben Hammond led the Warriors' offense as Ferguson went three for four with three RBIs and Hammond went two for three with four RBIs.

Tech now sits at 29-16 on the season and 18-6 in conference play. The Warriors return home for the final weekend of the regular season, hosting Concordia for another doubleheader on Saturday, April 26, starting at 1:00 p.m.
