GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech baseball team was back in action on Thursday afternoon, as they continued their run in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament. The Warriors would split day two of the contest, falling to Concordia University 3-4 in their first game of the day, before taking down Madonna 16-11 in game two.
In game one, the Orange and Black were on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning, giving them a 2-1 lead after two. After a scoreless third, both sides would add another run to their tally, with Tech still holding a one-run lead. The pitchers' battle commenced from there as the two offenses were held scoreless for three innings, until the Cardinals broke the trend, driving in one run in the eighth to level the score, 3-3. In the final inning, Tech was held scoreless, while the No.2-seeded Cardinals drove in the winning run.
In the win-or-go-home game, Tech once again got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. This time, however, the Crusaders would be the ones leading after one, 4-2. After two blank innings, both offenses would go off for five runs in the fourth as Madonna held their two-run lead, 9-7. In the fifth, the Warriors would strike again, drawing within one of the Crusaders. Tech would answer yet again in the seventh, taking their first lead of the contest with seven runs scored in the frame to lead 15-9. The Crusaders would draw one back in the seventh, but after trading runs in the eighth, the Warriors closed out the contest to win 16-11.
Jack Ferguson and
Ben Morrison would lead Tech's offense as Ferguson would go three for six with four RBIs, and Morrison would go two for five with four RBIs.
Danny May picked up the win on the bump for the Warriors, throwing three innings in which he allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out two.
Tech keeps moving in the WHAC Tournament and awaits the winner of the Aquinas vs Lawrence Tech matchup for a contest on Friday, May 2, at 2:00 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
