FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The (RV) Indiana Tech women's volleyball team kicked off their 2025 season with an action-packed weekend at the Onset Tournament hosted by cross-town rival, Saint Francis, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. In their season opener, the Warriors would go toe-to-toe with (RV) University of the Cumberlands, before ultimately falling 2-3 in five sets. Bouncing back after their first contest, the Warriors would pull off three consecutive sweeps in their final games of the tournament, including a win over (RV) Columbia International University, Indiana East, and a big upset over No. 8-ranked Indiana Kokomo.
In the season opener, the Warriors would get off to a fast start, taking the opening set 25-14. After the Warriors' wake-up call, the Patriots found their footing, taking consecutive sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-20 to take a 2-1 advantage. In the fourth set, the Warriors leveled the match score with a 25-20 win before falling in the fifth set 3-15. Tech's offense was led by
Lauren Snyder with 16 kills, who also posted a team-high 21 digs.
Kristin Matlack led the side with three aces and 52 assists, while
Hannah Teich tallied seven blocks.
After narrowly missing out on the win in their first match, the Orange and Black came back with vengeance in their second contest of the season. Maintaining control from start to finish, the Warriors would complete the sweep with scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-16. Joint efforts from
Jacqueline Allaway and
Amelia Schultz would lead the Warriors' offense as each posted nine kills.
Emiline Wood and
Kassidy Boener led the side in aces with three each, while the latter recorded a team-high 15 digs.
Hannah Teich again led the squad in blocks with two, while
Kristin Matlack added 27 assists.
In their third contest of the tournament, the Warriors would again complete the sweep, but only after narrowly taking the opening set 27-25. Tech would go on to feel more comfortable in the final two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-18.
Lauren Paska led the Warriors' attack with 10 kills, while
Emiline Wood added four aces. Teich and Matlack led the side in blocks and assists again with five and 25, respectively. Elise McCutchan would tally 16 digs in the contest.
Matched up against top-10 IU Kokomo in their final contest of the event, the Warriors would rise to the occasion, taking the match in three straight sets 25-20, 25-22, and 25-16 to complete the upset.
Hannah Teich had a day, leading the side in kills with nine, aces with three, and blocks with four.
Kristin Matlack added 39 assists, and
Elsie McCutchan posted 20 digs.
The Warriors sit at 3-1 on the season and return to action next Friday, August 29, as they take on No. 19 Missouri Baptist in the first of their four games at the AMF Memorial Tournament hosted by Taylor University.
