Warrior Struggle at AMF Memorial Tournament

UPLAND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team spent the weekend in Upland, Indiana, where they would partake in the four-game AMF Memorial Tournament, hosted by Taylor University. On Friday, the Warriors had a gauntlet of a schedule, facing No. 19-ranked Missouri Baptist in the tournament opener, where Tech would fall 1-3, before taking on No. 14-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene University, in which the Orange and Black would go down 1-3. On Saturday, the Warriors would face two more opponents out of the Crossroads League, the Huntington Foresters and the hosts, Taylor University. Tech would drop both matches in straight sets.
 
Against the Spartans, the Warriors dropped the first set 20-25, but bounced back in the second, winning 25-23 to level the match score. From there, Missouri Baptist retook control, winning the third and fourth sets 16-25 and 20-25, respectively. Game leaders for the Warriors were Amelia Schutlz with 10 kills, Kassidy Boener added four aces, Hannah Teich posted six blocks, Kristin Matlack tallied 38 assists, and Elsie McCutchan recorded 23 digs.
 
Against the Cougars, the match followed suit with the Warriors' contest against the Spartans. Mount Vernon took the opening set 25-17, followed by the Warriors leveling the score with a 25-17 win of their own in the second set. The Cougars responded, winning the third and fourth sets by 25-18 in each. Lauren Snyder led the Warriors' attack with 16 kills. Hannah Teich led the side in aces and blocks with three and six, respectively. Kristin Matlack dished out 40 assists, while Elsie McCutchan tallied 22 digs.
 
The Warriors opened play on Saturday with a matchup with the Foresters, where Tech would fall in three straight 16-25, 21-25, and 21-25. Lauren Snyder led the Warriors attack again with 14 kills. Kristin Matlack led the team in aces and assists with two and 32, respectively. Hannah Teich and Jacqueline Allaway each posted four blocks, and Elsie McCutchan added another 22 digs.
 
In their final match of the tournament, the Warriors would go up against the hosts, Taylor University, where Tech would fall 0-3 with scores of 22-25, 22-25, and 14-25. Snyder would lead the Warriors again with 11 kills. McCutchan assumed her normal role of leading the back line with 11 digs, while also contributing three aces. Emiline Wood matched McCutchan's tally, adding three aces of her own. Jacqueline Allaway and Lauren Paska added a block each, while Matlack posted 26 assists.
 
The Warriors now sit at 3-5 on the season and will travel to Sylvania, Ohio, for their next match on Wednesday, September 7. There, the Warriors will open their conference campaign, battling the Lourdes Gray Wolves, starting at 7:00 p.m.
