FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team returned to action over the weekend, hosting the annual Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament. In an expanded field this season, the Warriors looked poised and in control in each of their matches, completing the event with an unblemished record. On Friday, the Warriors dispatched the Buffaloes of Milligan University in three straight sets. Following Friday's sweep, Tech handled business on Saturday with wins over Indiana Northwest (3-0) and St. Ambrose University (3-0).
Tech's first game, the designated Liz game, against the Buffaloes went off without a hitch as the Warriors were calm and in control from the start, winning 25-14, 25-19, and 25-14. Tech's offense was dangerous as their various attacking options and efficiency kept Milligan on the back foot. In the win, five Warriors tallied five or more kills, led by
Lauren Snyder with 20.
Kassidy Boener led the side with three service aces, while
Jacqueline Allaway and
Amelia Schultz added two blocks each.
Kristin Matlack added 46 assists to her season tally, and
Elsie McCutchan posted 16 digs.
The Orange and Black picked up where they left off in game two, taking three straight sets from the RedHawks, 25-17, 25-15, and 25-8, while never trailing. Again, Snyder was the spearhead of the Warriors' attack, putting down 14 kills.
Emiline Wood led the team in serving with four aces.
Hannah Teich controlled the middle with three blocks.
Isabella Assaley stepped in to dish out 22 assists, while McCutchan assumed her normal role, leading the back line with 15 digs.
In the final match of the tournament, the Warriors maintained their pace from the first two outings, defeating the Fighting Bees in three sets, 25-17, 25-19, and 25-19.
Amelia Schultz dismantled the defense with a game-high 12 kills.
Hannah Teich added three aces to her stat line.
Olivia Kracium led the side with three blocks.
Isabella Assaley tallied 36 assists, while
Elsie McCutchan added 13 digs.
Tech moves to 7-5 on the season. The Warriors will return to conference action in their next contest as they host Defiance College on Wednesday, September 10, for a 7:00 p.m. start.
