Warriors Stung Down in Four by Defiance

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team returned to action on Wednesday evening for their second conference contest of the season, hosting the Defiance College Yellow Jackets. In what was an intense battle, the Warriors would come up short, falling in four sets with scores of 22-25, 14-25, 25-13, and 16-25.

To open the contest, the visitors grabbed control early in each of the first two sets. After taking an early lead in the first, Defiance continued to build the margin between the squads, leading 17-11. Tech responded, cutting the deficit down to two points, but ultimately the comeback effort came up short, falling 22-25. Set two was all Yellow Jackets as they led from the 3-2 mark on, finishing the set with a 14-25 score. The Warriors came to life in the third set, flipping the script on Defiance from the second. This time, the Orange and Black would take an early lead and continue to separate from the opposition, before settling for a 25-13 win. The early stages of the fourth set unfolded similarly to the first, as the two sides were evenly matched. In the end, the visitors would pull away as they would end the set on a 9-2 run to take the match from the Warriors.

Keira Hans and Amelia Schultz split the role of lead attacker with 13 kills each. Hannah Teich led the side with two aces. Jacqueline Allaway posted four blocks. Kristin Matlack tallied 39 assists, and Elsie McCutchan added 19 digs.

Tech now sits at 7-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The Warriors kick off a three-game road stretch on Friday with a trip to Lima, Ohio, for their next contest. While there, Tech will go head-to-head with the Racers of Northwestern Ohio starting at 7:00 p.m.
