FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The 24th ranked Men's Hockey secured the TECH Cup on Saturday night with a 2–1 victory over Lawrence Tech at home, bouncing back from a 4–1 loss in Game 1 and closing the series on a high note.
Indiana Tech struck first late in the opening period when Malik Ali scored at 15:55 off an assist from Zane Myler to give the Warriors an early 1–0 lead. Lawrence Tech responded quickly in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals in a span of just under five minutes to take control of the game. The Blue Devils added an insurance goal early in the third period to seal the 4–1 win.
With the TECH Cup on the line, the Warriors delivered a disciplined and resilient performance in front of the home crowd on Saturday night. After a scoreless first period, Francesco Santaniello broke the deadlock at 12:26 of the second period with an unassisted goal to give Indiana Tech a 1–0 lead. The Warriors extended their advantage early in the third period when Austin Sawyer found the back of the net at 2:42, finishing a play set up by Brodie Burge and Ian Vannelli. Lawrence Tech pulled within one with just four seconds remaining in regulation, but Indiana Tech held strong to secure the 2–1 victory and claim the TECH Cup. The Warriors' special teams played a key role, converting twice on the power play while limiting Lawrence Tech to scoreless chances with the man advantage.
With the win, Indiana Tech improved to 13–8–5 overall and 12–2–4 in conference play, bringing the TECH Cup home for the fifth consecutive year. The Warriors now look to close out conference play as they host Aquinas College on Friday, February 13, for Senior Night before playing on the road against the Saints on Saturday night.
