FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team split a doubleheader with Huntington on Wednesday in their home opener.
Huntington scored first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first, Indiana Tech loaded the bases with no outs.
Alyssa Harvey came around to score on a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by
Haylee Pruitt gave Indiana Tech a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third,
Carlye Walter hit a three-run home run to give Indiana Tech a 5-1 lead.
Huntington scored three runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-4, but Indiana Tech responded in the bottom of the fifth with a two-RBI triple by
Kiersten Delaneyto put the Warriors ahead 7-4.
Huntington added a run in the sixth to make it 7-5.
Alyssa Harvey hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-5. An RBI single by
Kiersten Delaney made it 9-5.
Huntington scored two in the seventh and brought the tying run to the plate, but Indiana Tech got out of the jam to secure a 9-7 win.
Kiersten Delaney led Indiana Tech with three hits and three RBI, including a triple. Both
Alyssa Harvey and
Carlye Walter homered. Harvey stole two bases, and Walter and
Alyssa Fox each stole a base.
Savannah Bravo got the win, allowing four runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings with five strikeouts.
Mackenzie Arroyo picked up the save, allowing three runs (two earned) in 2.2 innings in relief.
Game two was scoreless until the sixth when Huntington exploded for seven runs to take a 7-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Alyssa Harvey singled, stole second and third, and came around to score on an
Alyssa Fox RBI single.
Melissa Cabrera delivered a two-RBI double to make it 7-3.
Carly Basham followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-4.
Huntington would take game two 7-4.
Kiersten Delaney had two of the five Indiana Tech hits.
Melissa Cabrera had a double and two RBI.
Alyssa Harvey stole two bases, and
Allie Dolenc also stole a base.
Mallory Stinson started and took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings.
Mackenzie Arroyo allowed four runs (one earned) in relief.
Savannah Bravo threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Indiana Tech moves to 2-4 on the season. The Warriors return to action on Friday at home against Olivet Nazarene.
