Tech Softball Splits Doubleheader with Saint Francis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team split a doubleheader with Saint Francis on Friday, falling 7-5 in eight innings in game one before taking game two 6-2.
 
Saint Francis scored two runs in the top of the first of game one to take a 2-0 lead. They then scored three more runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 edge.
 
Indiana Tech scored a run in the fourth on a Rhiannon McKay RBI groundout to make it 5-1. A solo home run by Allie Dolenc in the fifth made it 5-2, and an RBI double by Carlye Walter made it 5-3.
 
Another run came around to score in the sixth on an error to make it 5-4. In the bottom of the seventh, an RBI single by Avery Kidwell tied the game at 5-5.
 
Saint Francis scored two in the eighth to make it 7-5, which would be the final score.
 
Alyssa Harvey led Indiana Tech with two hits and three stolen bases. Carlye Walter and Lily Barringer both doubled, and Allie Dolenc hit a homer.
 
Carlye Walter got the start, allowing five runs (three earned) in 3.2 innings while striking out five. Mackenzie Arroyo took the tough luck loss, allowing two runs (one earned) in 4.1 innings in relief.
 
Saint Francis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in game two, but Indiana Tech responded in the bottom of the first when two runs came around to score on an error to make it 2-1 Warriors.
 
A two-RBI single by Carlye Walter in the fourth made it 4-1 Indiana Tech. An RBI single by Kaelie Kugler in the sixth made it 5-1, and another run came around to score on an error to make it 6-1 Warriors.
 
Saint Francis scored a run in the seventh, but Indiana Tech secured the 6-2 victory.
 
Carlye Walter led Indiana Tech with two hits and two RBI. Kaelie Kugler had two hits and stole two bases. Avery Kidwell had the lone extra base hit for the Warriors, a double. Victoria Boyer also stole a base in the win.
 
Mallory Stinson picked up the win, allowing two runs while striking out six in a complete game effort.
 
Indiana Tech moves to 3-5 on the year. The Warriors return to action at home on Saturday against Olivet Nazarene.
