FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team fell to No. 10 Bethel in a five-set thriller on Friday.
The first set was back-and-forth as the teams found themselves tied at 12-12. Indiana Tech then used a 6-2 run to take an 18-14 lead.
Bethel roared back to take a 23-22 lead late in the set. The Pilots had set point at 24-23, but back-to-back Indiana Tech points made it 25-24. Bethel then answered to jump ahead 26-25 and 27-26, but the Warriors responded to take a 28-27 edge. After a timeout, Bethel used a 4-1 run to take the first set 31-29.
Set two was tied at 17-17 before a 7-1 run gave Bethel a 25-18 second set win.
Indiana Tech jumped out to a 17-13 lead in the third set to force a Bethel timeout. The Pilots cut the lead to one at 19-18, but the Warriors scored three straight points to force another timeout. Indiana Tech would go on to win set three 25-21.
The Warriors once again led early in set four at 16-12. Bethel answered to tie the set at 22-22, but Indiana Tech closed the set with three straight points to force a fifth set.
Bethel jumped ahead 6-2 to open the deciding set. Indiana Tech cut the lead to one at 9-8, but back-to-back points put Bethel ahead 11-8. Down 12-9, Indiana Tech used a 4-0 run to take a 13-12 lead, but Bethel responded with three straight points to take the fifth set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
Dylan Poore led Indiana Tech with 17 kills.
Logan Gieseke had 14 kills and 5.0 blocks.
Zeke Litchfield also added 5.0 blocks.
Nolan Bosley had a career-high 53 assists in the contest.
Alex Rosenow had a team-high 11 digs.
Indiana Tech falls to 5-5 on the year and 2-2 in WHAC play. The Warriors host Goshen for a home match on Saturday.
