FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team split a doubleheader with Aquinas on Saturday, taking game one 10-4 in seven innings before falling 4-3 in game two.
Indiana Tech scored first in game one. In the bottom of the third, an RBI single by
Ben Morrison put the Warriors ahead 1-0. A bases loaded walk to
Garrett Rainey made it 2-0, and an RBI single by
Dane Richards made it 3-0. An RBI fielder's choice by
Logan Rybarczyk put the Warriors ahead 4-0, and a double steal by Rybarczyk and Rainey made it 5-0.
Aquinas responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to make it 5-4.
In the bottom of the fourth, an RBI double by
Brycen Hannah made it 6-4 Indiana Tech. In the bottom of the fifth, an RBI bunt single by
Logan Rybarczyk put Indiana Tech ahead 7-4. An RBI sacrifice bunt by
Keelan Dunkle made it 8-4, and another double steal put Indiana Tech ahead 9-4.
An RBI double by
Jack Ferguson in the sixth put Indiana Tech ahead 10-4, which would go on to be the final score.
Jorge Santana,
Brycen Hannah, and
Dane Richards each had three hits. Hannah doubled twice, and
Jack Ferguson added a double of his own.
Logan Rybarczyk had two stolen bases, and
Jorge Santana,
Garrett Rainey, and
Dane Richards each stole a base.
Noah Redmon got the start, allowing four runs in three innings while striking out seven.
Kaden Plank picked up the win, throwing four scoreless innings in relief.
Aquinas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two. In the bottom of the first, an RBI single by
Garrett Rainey tied the game at 1-1.
Aquinas scored a run in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead.
Jack Ferguson led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run, his third of the year, to tie the game at 2-2.
Indiana Tech scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on an error to take a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Aquinas scored two runs to take a 4-3 lead, which would go on to be the final score.
Brycen Hannah led Indiana Tech with two hits.
Jack Ferguson homered, and
Derek Ruiz doubled.
Austin Byford got the start, allowing two runs (one earned) in three innings while striking out five.
Kail Baughman took the loss, allowing two unearned runs in 3.1 innings.
Dean Sommer threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Indiana Tech moves to 11-7 overall and 1-1 in WHAC play. The Warriors return to action on Sunday at Rochester Christian.
